1. Playing for Real Money
Before you can deposit real money, you need to activate your real money account at the most of the sites. In order to play with Real Money, you need to fill out all your personal details and deposit money into your account. There is no charge to enable your Real Money account at ALL the sites.
2. What is a ring game?
It's a style of game where the play continues at the same level for as long as there are players at the table. You can play the same strategy as long as you can because the blinds will not increase.
3. Can I get the poker room in full screen size?
Some poker rooms allow you to play at full screen size, but others not.
4. What is a deposit bonus?
It is the bonus that every poker room will give you when you first deposit money into your account. Some deposit bonuses are instantly added to your account, others are cleared partially while you play and the rest are cleared at the end when all the wagering requirements are met.
5. Can I change my nickname?
No, because it's the only way other players can recognize you and for security purposes to track players for fraud purposes. Much of the fun and skill with playing poker is getting to know your opponents.
Only one site (Cake Poker) allows you to change your nickname every week.
6. What is Play Money?
Play Money are credits without actual cash value. You can play with Play Money as much as you can, trying to improve your skills in preparation for playing for real money. If you run out of Play Money, you can refill it any time.
7. How do I play with Real Money?
At some poker rooms you need to activate your Play Money account and convert it into a Real Money account in order to deposit funds. After you have activated your Real Money account you are allowed to deposit funds.
But there are poker rooms where you will not need to activate your Play Money account and you can deposit instantly at the same time you register.
8. What is the rake?
Rake is the amount of money taken by the poker room as a fee for hosting the game. Rake is taken from the pot, depending of the size of it, the number of players in the hand and the stakes in play.
If there is no flop, no rake will be taken.
9. How much is the rake?
It depends of the poker room, but it's usually a 5% of the pot to a maximum of $3 in increments of $0.25. Rake is collected from the pot rather than directly from player's funds.
10. What is a Tournament?
It's a game where you will compete against players around the world starting with the same amount of chips and eventually only one player will finish with all the chips and he will be the winner. Every poker room has their own tournament rules and they are played with chips that have no value outside of the tournament, so if you are seated at the tournament with $2000 in chips, you can't cash them out. The winner of the tournament and several of the other top finishers are typically awarded prize money according to some predetermined schedule.
11. What does it cost to play a Tournament?
Every tournament has a specific buy-in, it goes from cents to thousands of dollars. The buy-in consist in two numbers like this, $5+$1. The first number ($5) is the money that will go to the prize pool of the tournament and the second number ($1) is the fee for entering the tournament, at the end you would pay $6 to play that tournament.
12. How can I play a Tournament?
To register for any poker tournament, you must first choose the tournament tab in the lobby. Once in the tournament section, you will see all the available tournaments, you can sort by time and see which is the best upcoming tournament that suits to you. Please note that tournaments appear in the lobby at staggered times (days or many hours before it starts).
When the tournament starts you will be taken automatically to the table.
13. How long a Tournament last?
It varies dependent upon the blinds structure and the number of entrants, they can last from few minutes to hours (15h-16h as maximum)
14. What is a Freeroll?
It's a scheduled tournament where you don't need to pay the buy-in. It's a free tournament with a small prize pool but it helps to all the players who are novice and enter to the poker room with no deposit.
15. What is a Sit & Go Tournament?
This is a non-scheduled tournament with a small number of players. They can be at one table or several tables and they start when all the seats are filled. To register to a Sit & Go, you must choose the Sit & Go tab in the lobby, see if any has free seats, click on it and then the chair to sit at. Finally wait until all the seats are fillled.
16. What is the prize structure of a Sit & Go Tournament?
It varies dependent upon the number of entrants, but as a standard in a 10 player tournament, the 1st place will receive 50% of the prize pool, the 2nd place will receive 30% and 3rd place will receive 20%.
17. What can I do if the table I want to play is full?
Click on the table and choose "Join waiting list". As soon as a seat is available, it will be announced to you.
18. Where can I learn about the different types of poker games?
Most of the poker sites have very easy to read tutorials about the game rules and house rules.
19. Can I play at more than one table at the same time?
Yes, it is possible to play at several tables at the same time. When it's time to act at one table it will pop-up in front of the others.
20. What does Avg. Pot and Players/Flop mean?
Avg. Pot refers to the average size of the pot over the last 30 hands average pot. Players/Flop is the percentage of players that stay in the hand for the Flop.
21. How do I open a table from the lobby?
Highlight the table that you wish to open and then double click the highlighted area. The table window will open.
22. Can I change seats in a poker table?
The only way to do this is to first leave the table and then come back.
